Whatever are you doing?

If you were in charge of running the world,
Who would you let go hungry?
 Who would you not feed?
 How would you decide?
Would you let those who
 Don't, can't or won't work
As hard as all the rest starve?

Would you create an area to put these
 Desperately hungry people of yours,
So that you would not have to gaze upon
The suffering you created?
Would you build walls around them
To keep their cries from disturbing
Your song, your laughter, or your sleep?

 Would you watch helplessly
As they laid siege upon each other,
As they desperately fought to survive?
Would you turn your back
 And forbid others too,
From witnessing the carnage
Of your making?

If you were in charge of running the world,
Would you run it like your family?
Would you encourage the smallest,
The weakest, the slowest to do their best?
Would you feed them anyway?
Would you let any one of them sit
Unsheltered in the darkness?

 Would you keep your children
Safe at all cost?
Would you keep them fed and warm?
Protected from harm?
Would you whisper to them that
they are good and deserving of
every ounce of your love?

If you were in charge of running the world,
Would you ever let it suffer like now?
Would you ever let your people
Lay a hand to each other because
Of desperation, hunger, or hopelessness?
Can you not hear the voice in the darkness
Whispering to you?

Hush and listen,  you will hear
A whisper like the wind,
Commanding softly,
 "Awaken little one!
It is you, my precious.
You are in charge of running this world...
Whatever are you doing?"
